Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network are introducing their new Snowbird Travel Care program. This program is designed specifically for Medicare Plus Blue PPO and HMO-POS individual members traveling to warmer, out-of-state climates for the winter, such as Arizona or Florida.
The Snowbird Travel Care program brochure further explains the benefits of this program. Members will have coverage anywhere in the US for up to six months each year, and even when choosing out-of-state BlueCard network providers, generally won’t pay more than the usual out-of-pocket expenses.
The Snowbird Travel Care program can get members started by:
Helping to find participating, in-network providers outside of Michigan
Offering suggestions on how best to use benefits while away
Providing checklists for smooth departures
Having guidance from a dedicated, personalized Travel Care Advice Line
Aiding in updating medication lists and doses
Instructing on how to access the Blue Cross mobile app via phone or tablet
Reminding members to notify their doctors of travel plans, in case pre-travel care is needed
Beginning this week, members will be mailed the Snowbird Travel Care program brochure and cover letter.
